曲木島(まがきしま)

曲木島は籬島とも称し、 往昔鹽竈神社築造の際 「曲木を巧みに用いた」 籬島明神を祀る古祠が島名の由来。 この島は古来名島として歌枕に使われ古今集、 続後撰集などにはこの島を読み込んだ歌が数多く見られます。
「わがせこをみやこにやりて塩竈のまがきの島のまつぞ恋しき (古今和歌集 東歌)」

Magaki island (Shiogama city designated scenic spot )

DESCRIPTION

Magaki (曲木) island is also written Magaki (籬) island. When Shiogama shrine was built, the name was derived from a small shrine deftly made of curved(曲)wood(木) which deifies Magaki-jima Myoujin, a great God of Magaki(籬) island. You can find the name of this great island in ancient anthologies of poetry such as the Kokinshu or the Shokugo Sensyu.
“Wagaseko o Miyakoni yarite Shigama no magakino shima no matuzo koishiki (Kokinwaka syu Touka)”
Designated on September 20th, 41st year of Showa(1966).
