多羅葉樹（たらようじゅ）

タラヨウは、 モチノキ科に属す雌雄異株の常緑高木です。主に本州 （近畿・中国）・四国・九州の山地に分布し、 本県は太平洋側の北限地帯となっています。鹽竈神社のタラヨウは樹齢600～700年と推定され、北限地帯にみられる老大木として貴重なものです。 （昭和45年10月30日指定）

Tarayou tree in Shiogama shrine (A prefecture natural monument)

DESCRIPTION

Tarayou is a tall, dioecious evergreen tree belonging to the Mochinoki family. It is mainly found in Honshu (Kinki and Chugoku regions) and Miyagi prefecture in the northernmost region, near the Pacific Ocean. The Tarayou tree in Shiogama shrine is estimated to be 600-700 years old.
Designated on October 30, 45th year of Showa (1970).
