十二支方角石（じゅうにしほうがくせき）

塩竈市指定・有形文化財

この方角石ほうがくせきは、十二支じゅうにしが刻きざまれた円柱形えんちゅうけいをなし、直径ちょっけい45㎝、高たかさ82.5㎝と他所たしょに類るいを見みない堂々どうどうとしたものである。
　奉献者ほうけんしゃが一般いっぱんの船頭せんどう、廻船問屋かいせんどんやとは異ことなり幕府ばくふより差遣さけんされた役人やくにん（木村又兵衛正信きむらまたべえまさのぶであることも珍めずらしいと言いわれている。

The twelve animal zodiac Direction Stone

DESCRIPTION

There is a “Direction Stone” located on Hiyori mountain in Sabusawa.
This stone is distinguished by its cylindrical shape(diameter of 45cm,height 82.5cm).and engraved with the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac.This stone was dedicated by Matabee Masanobu Kimura(Matabee-Masanobu Kimura),a delegate from the Tokugawa shogunate.
This is very unusual, as usually the dedication was performed by ordinary people such as a boatman or a shipping agent.

Designated on February 1, 62nd year of Showa (1987)
